2015 Parish Pilgrimage

Each year the Parish Pastoral Council organised a Parish Pilgrimage. Recent years has seen trips to Croagh Patrick, Lough Derg and also to the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin.

St. Mel’s Cathedral in Longford was destroyed by fire on Christmas Day 2009. In 2010, reconstruction commenced and on Christmas Eve 2014, the Cathedral was re-opened for the people of Longford. Our priest in residence of Clifferna, Francis Duffy was ordained Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise in October 2013. Since the Cathedral was re-opened, he offered us a detailed tour of the newly reconstructed St. Mels.

We took this into account when organising our September 2015 tour, so to make a day of it, we arranged a guided tour of Clonmacnoise, followed by full access to the site and museum which houses many high crosses. On our way home to Cavan, we stopped off at St. Mel’s where Bishop Francis gave us a look around and tour.

A total of 33 people travelled on September 5th, and it is safe to say that it was an enjoyable day and a good time was had by all.
